SPONSORED BY: HIPPY Program (Anglicare Tas)
It’s so important for kids to read that we created a space for kids to come and immerse themselves in books! We’ll have regular book reading sessions for kids to sit on the mat and listen to books be read out loud. Plus, there will be tables and chairs for kids to sit and flip through books off the shelf. And even some books to purchase from book retailers. We’d love to be a launching platform for any budding new children’s book authors too.
ACTIVITIES YOU'LL FIND IN THE READING ZONE:
The Brotherhood of St Laurence holds the licence to operate HIPPY in Australia. The HIPPY program (Home Interactive Program for Parents and Youngsters) supports you to be your child's first teacher at home to give a them a head-start before they start school. HIPPY tutors give you support and resources to create a fun learning environment in your home.
At Kid I Am there will be a story-time session, self-reading stations, craft corner and beanbags for children and parents to share and enjoy. These activities will provide an opportunity for parents and children to have a taste of what the HIPPY program could provide.
Collins booksellers is an Australian owned and locally operated national bookshop business offering books, music and film. Collins booksellers is proud of it’s Australian heritage, and the growth & expansion achieved during 90 years of trading since the first doors opened in 1922.
As Collins we are delighted for the opportunity to showcase our books at the ‘KID I AM’ event. Collins will be providing local Tasmanian authors to do readings of their own books to groups of children. Children will be able to interact and ask questions and our local authors will engage with them. Children’s books will be available to purchase on the day.
Join us throughout the entire day in the Story Corner for a book! Grab a comfy spot in a bean bag or on the mat and listen to one of the great Reading Heroes that are coming in specially to read their favourite book aloud. There will be a new reader every 15 minutes, and books are suitable for varying ages.
